Welcome to Sarana

Sarana is a 1400 acre rural property close to the town of Coonabarabran in the north west of New South Wales, Australia. My brother Geoff and I bought the farm in late 2004. Sarana is a beautiful property if you like bushland, rugged and surreal scenery and loads of wildlife. It's right next to the eastern edge of the popular Warrumbungle National Park, and 11ks from Coonabarabran. Although not 'good' country if you want to grow wool, beef or crops, Sarana is perfect for our business: growing and harvesting seed from native plants for sale to ecological restoration projects. As the farm develops, Geoff and I aim to use this blog as a place to reflect on nature, design and making money from alternative rural enterprises. We hope that we generate some passionate discussion too about our relationship to landscape, the 'tree change' phenomenon and working in a natural environment during a period of climate change.
